Statutory Maternity Pay

Statutory maternity pay or SMP is a payment made by an employer to an employee. This payment is typically made weekly and is for women who worked for a company prior to pregnancy or during their pregnancy. If you were not employed in your pregnancy then you are not eligible for SMP.

Women who qualify for statutory maternity pay can claim for payments either if they don’t intend to return to work for that employer after the pregnancy.

No age limits are applied to people applying for SMP however SMP can only be paid for a maximum of 39 weeks.
